Mental Health Treatment Plan
(Medicare subsidisation)
(Medicare subsidisation)
A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) is referred to me by your local General Practitioner (GP). This is under the Better Access Initiative as part of Medicare.
The amount of sessions I can provide under the MHTP/Better Access initiative will be guided by GP assessment. The current capacity is six to ten sessions for a Medicare MHTP/Better Access plan.
Expect your GP to undertake assessment with you such as a K10 plus or DASS (mood inventory) on consultation when discussing a MHTP.
Whichever therapist you choose, whether it be me or another provider, I cannot emphasise the importance of seeking a registered mental health professional either through the AASW or AHPRA for example. A Medicare registered practitioner would belong to an association approved by the Australian Government.
An Accredited Mental Health Social Worker has undergone a rigorous and multifaceted assessment process that is approved by the Australian Government before being credentialed to implement focussed psychological strategies under Medicare.
Consulting with your GP is often the first step in how to link in with a counsellor. If you or your GP have any questions, please feel free to enquire 0402 998 830.
The below link has general information on services Australia regarding eligibility for a MHTP. NB the criteria and eligibility can be a constant flux of change.
