Accessible Counselling with Medicare and Rebates – Sydney and Online
As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW), I am committed to making mental health care accessible. Just like any other health service, mental health support should be available based on need. I can guide you through navigating Medicare, private health insurance, and other rebate pathways to make counselling easier to access.
If you would like guidance on the best rebate pathway for your needs or have questions about counselling options, I offer a free initial phone consultation. Call me at 0402 998 830 to discuss your options.
How to Access Counselling through Medicare
A common way to access counselling is through a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), which is organised with your local General Practitioner (GP). This plan is part of the Better Access Initiative under Medicare and usually provides 6–10 sessions of subsidised counselling.
During your GP consultation, you may complete a brief assessment such as a K10 Plus or DASS mood inventory to determine your needs.

As an AMHSW, I am credentialed by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) to deliver evidence-based, person-centred Focused Psychological Strategies (FPS) under Medicare.
This ensures you receive high-quality, accountable care.
If you or your GP have questions about linking in with a counsellor under Medicare, feel free to call me on 0402 998 830.
Private Health Insurance – Ancillary Cover
Many private health funds, including Bupa, Medibank, HCF, Teachers Health, and Doctors Health, offer psychology or counselling coverage under ancillary benefits. Coverage may extend to sessions with an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. Check with your provider to confirm your benefits and claim process using my invoices.
NDIS
I can assist with Self Managed or Plan managed funds with provision for focused psychological strategies and psychosocial improvement. I addtionally have industry experience in working with neuro-divergance, acquired disabilities and genetic disorders in a variety of settings, supporting individuals to build emotional wellbeing, resilience, and everyday coping skills. My approach is person-centred and tailored to each participant’s goals, with a focus on practical, evidence-based strategies that enhance independence, social connection, and quality of life. I work collaboratively with participants, families, and support networks to ensure therapy aligns with NDIS plans and delivers meaningful, outcomes-focused progress in a safe and supportive environment.
I am an approved provider of psychological services under the NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA), enabling me to support individuals who have experienced work-related psychological injury. I work collaboratively with clients, employers, and insurers within the WorkCover framework to deliver evidence-based, goal-oriented counselling that promotes recovery, resilience, and a safe return to work where appropriate. My approach is trauma-informed, client-centred, and aligned with SIRA guidelines, ensuring that services are both clinically effective and compliant with required standards of care and reporting.
