Hi, my name is Anthony Colantuono, and I’m a Counsellor and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker based in Miranda, Sydney.
I provide recovery-focused psychological counselling for adults, children, and adolescents.
My goal is to help you build resilience, improve wellbeing, and move forward confidently in life.
If you’re considering counselling, I’m glad you’ve found my website. It’s important to work with a qualified professional who is linked to a recognised association. I’m a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and follow their Code of Ethics to ensure professional, confidential, and respectful care.
Counselling with me is confidential, kind, and non-judgmental. I provide a safe space where you can talk openly about your experiences and goals.
Therapy with me is practical and focused on healing, growth, and recovery rather than long-term dependency.
I use evidence-based therapies that are Medicare-approved and backed by decades of research. I have particular experience supporting people who have experienced trauma or re-traumatisation from past care.
I completed my Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) at The University of Sydney in 2006 and have nearly 20 years of clinical experience.
I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Narrative Therapy
Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
Mindfulness-Based Therapies
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I use an integrative approach, tailoring each session to your individual needs. EMDR, in particular, can be highly effective for trauma and anxiety when delivered correctly.
I personally see all clients — I don’t allocate sessions to interns or registrars. You’re welcome to book a free 15-minute consultation to see if I’m the right therapist for you.
I’m registered with:
Medicare under the Better Access Initiative (Mental Health Treatment Plan)
Psychological Support Services (PSS) through Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network (CESPHN)
Victim Services NSW
Private health funds such as HCF, Bupa, Teachers Health, Medibank, and Doctors Health may offer rebates depending on your level of cover.
If travelling to appointments is difficult, I provide online counselling through Telehealth so you can access support from the comfort of your home. Many clients in Sydney and regional Australia find that video counselling offers the same personal connection and therapeutic benefit as face-to-face sessions. I’m skilled in delivering EMDR therapy online, as well as other focused psychological strategies covered under Medicare, ensuring you receive effective, evidence-based care wherever you are.
I work with adults, children, adolescents, and families experiencing a wide range of concerns, including:
Anxiety, depression, and mood difficulties
Trauma and PTSD
Grief, loss, and bereavement
Relationship and family conflict
Men’s mental health
Anger management and emotional regulation
Workplace stress and burnout
Life transitions (retirement, separation, divorce)
Substance use and addiction
Parenting, co-parenting, and carer stress
Domestic and family violence
Adjustment to illness or injury
Sexuality and identity concerns
LGBTQIA+ affirming support
Cross-cultural counselling
When working with children and young people, I use family-inclusive, systemic approaches and, where suitable, play-based or youth-friendly therapy.
I provide counselling for clients who prefer to see a male therapist for sensitive or trauma-related reasons.
I also speak Italian and a Southern dialect from Reggio Calabria, and can offer bilingual counselling where appropriate.
AASW Registration Number: 658016
I acknowledge the Dharawal people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I practice, I recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. I stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities and celebrate diverse identities.
